Australia (ACT 1)

31.9522° S, 115.8589° E

Black, Green, Silver, Blue.

Sat upright to the side of my bed, panting and sweaty. I pulled off a single blanket that stuck to my shoulder and stood up. Hottest day of the year, middle of the night and I was awake. I raised my right arm and wiped my brow. I put on a black shirt, green shorts then rolled my head to its side to check for the time.

12.13 am

“Fuck” I whimpered, stretching my back and neck.

My door was open and a plastic fan whipped around loudly outside my room. One of its legs was bent and the grate that separated its blades from open air was gone. I moved sorely across carpet. Walking through darkness and fumbling against the wall for a light switch. A lightbulb pulsed awkwardly on and off for several seconds before maintaining a low moan and steady glow. I moved to the kitchen, passing. I opened the refrigerator and took a pear and moved to the other side of the room to get ice from the freezer, I locked it on my way out.

I put a piece in my mouth and rubbed another along my neck and forehead while I left through a side door. Reaching into an adjacent cupboard for a towel as I went. I stood outside for a second then started to jog west. Traveling along warm tarmac and passing grey houses. Lights turned off in soundless residence.

2 hours 43 minutes from my house to the ocean.

I stood barefoot on dirt and folded my towel over a wooden gate then moved downwards to the coast and sat on the sand. Eating my pear and sifting through beach with my left hand.

I threw the leftover fruit into a bush and walked to the water. I moved fully into the foam and rested back. Lying on the surface and letting my hair unravel away from my head.

03.30 am

I stared upwards at silver thousands.
Filled my lungs with air,

And disappeared into cool blue.
